Nigerian and Yoruba football star, Asisat Oshoala, has completed a high-profile transfer from Bay FC in the United States to Al Hilal in the Saudi Women’s Premier League.

Oshoala, who hails from Ikorodu in Lagos State, signed a two-year deal with the Saudi Arabian club on September 2, 2025. She joins her Super Falcons teammates Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega, further strengthening Al Hilal’s squad.

The 30-year-old striker made history as Bay FC’s first-ever goal scorer when the California-based club began play in 2024. She finished that season as their top scorer with seven goals. But her second year in the NWSL proved challenging, as she featured in 12 matches with no goal contribution.

Before her American adventure, Oshoala enjoyed global success with FC Barcelona, where she won two UEFA Women’s Champions League titles and several league trophies. She is also a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, widely celebrated as one of Africa’s greatest ever female players.

For many Yoruba people at home and abroad, her career stands as a source of pride, symbolizing resilience, excellence, and the global recognition of Yoruba talent. Her latest move highlights not only her enduring relevance in world football but also the continued contribution of Yoruba daughters to international sports.
