Following the recent resurgence of kidnapping and robbery along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Oyo State Police Command has beefed up security on the road with the deployment of more operatives.
Olu-Ode of Oyo State, popularly known as Ege, confirmed the development, saying: “We have met with the management team of the Oyo State Police Command on how to bring an end to the reported cases of kidnapping and other vices in the state.
“With the collaborative efforts of the police, the criminals will be smoked out of their various hideout hideouts in the state.”
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemed the kidnap of 13 persons from Piko, a remote community in Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by suspected gunmen.
HURIWA, therefore, urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of security emergency in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It said that a dedicated team of well-trained and well-equipped joint armed security forces should be deployed to the six area councils of the FCT to quel the criminality threatening the peace, stability and security of the nation’s capital.
