The reconstruction of the Iperu–Ilishan corridor in Ogun State is progressing steadily, according to project updates released by the government. The 5.3-kilometre road, which is being dualised, is expected to improve connectivity for communities along the route and strengthen access between the Gateway International Airport and the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.

As part of the project scope, more than five kilometres of drainage and outfall systems are being constructed to provide a lasting solution to the flooding challenges previously experienced in the area. Officials noted that the road passes directly through the Gateway International Airport, making its expansion crucial for improved accessibility and future traffic demands.

The reconstruction is being executed in phases. Ongoing works include earthworks, major drainage installations and laterite placement across different sections of the corridor. Government engineers confirmed that several portions ahead of the active construction zone have already reached stone-base level and are ready for asphalting, reflecting the pace and sequencing put in place for uninterrupted progress.

The Iperu–Ilishan road is regarded as an important socioeconomic link for residents, businesses and airport-bound travellers. The state government said the upgrade will enhance mobility, support commerce and contribute to overall community development.

Authorities added that the reconstruction is being carried out using high-standard engineering practices and quality materials to ensure durability. The project is scheduled for completion by Christmas 2025.
