North Korea’s military has declared its intention to “permanently shut off and block” the southern border with South Korea, effectively severing all connections between the two nations.

This move, described as a “major military step,” aims to cut off roads and railways and fortify the border area with strong defense structures.

Pyongyang’s decision is reportedly in response to South Korea’s “war exercises” and visits by US strategic nuclear assets, which North Korea views as a threat.

The nation has already begun demolishing parts of the Donghae Line railway and laying landmines along the border.

Analysts suggest this move is a continuation of North Korea’s long-standing process of distancing itself from South Korea.

Inter-Korean relations have hit an all-time low, with Pyongyang declaring South Korea its “principal enemy” and closing agencies dedicated to reunification.

North Korea’s military informed the US forces of its plans to prevent accidental clashes and misjudgment.

The nation’s leader, Kim Jong Un, seeks to formally designate South Korea as an enemy state.

The border closure comes amid tensions between the two Koreas, with Seoul reporting Pyongyang’s reinforcement efforts resulting in multiple casualties due to landmine explosions. South Korea’s intelligence agency observed signs of railway demolition, effectively severing connections between the two nations.

Experts speculate that North Korea may await the outcome of the US election before making further moves.

The announcement follows reports of North Korean soldiers fighting alongside Russian troops in Ukraine.

North Korea’s parliamentary meeting concluded without nullifying the landmark 1991 inter-Korean agreement, but analysts anticipate further developments in the coming weeks.
