Nigerian poet and spoken word artist Maryam Bukar Hassan delivered a powerful address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), calling on the global community to confront the humanitarian crises affecting millions worldwide.
Speaking to world leaders, Hassan said, “Our world bleeds before our eyes. Children in conflict zones, nations silenced by hunger and war, and it begs the question: Are we witnessing the collapse of conscience in real time?”
Her speech highlighted the devastating impact of ongoing conflicts, hunger, and political instability on vulnerable populations, particularly children, and stressed the urgency of collective action to prevent further suffering.
Hassan’s address was part of a series of high-level statements emphasizing peace, human rights, and sustainable development during the week-long UNGA session in New York, where delegations from around the world are meeting to discuss pressing global issues.
The Nigerian delegation, alongside other international representatives, reaffirmed commitments to multilateral cooperation and strengthening humanitarian interventions to ensure protection for populations affected by crises worldwide.
