The newly formed Jihadist group, “Lakurawa,” has left 15 people dead and numerous cattle stolen in Mera, Kebbi State.

The assault occurred on Friday, prompting a response from locals who engaged the terrorists, resulting in casualties on both sides.

Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Umar Abubakar Tafida, and Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, attended the funeral prayers for the victims.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters confirmed the existence of Lakurawa in the northwest states of Sokoto and Kebbi, noting its worsening security challenges.

The Yoruba Times had previously reported Lakurawa’s emergence, imposing taxes and spreading anti-western ideology.

TYT learnt that the group has established bases in Local Government areas, preaching against democratic governance.

Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the incident, stating, “Fifteen deaths were recorded, but the attackers’ identities are yet to be confirmed.” Investigations are ongoing.
