A recent tweet on X formerly (Twitter), from a page, @lagospedia, has sparked a lot of controversies after the user announced a planned protest in Lagos and entire South-West states in Nigeria from 20 – 30th, August, 2024, with hashtag #IgboMustGo.
In response, a user reportedly said to be based in the United Kingdom has offered N500,000 in reward for information on the handler of the page.
This has actually raised concerns about the safety, privacy and potential violence against the user.
However, the tweet took a further turn when another user in the comment box offered N100,000 extra for the information on the handler of the @lagospedia page.
According to the user, “I will add an extra N100k to this Request. Pls someone take it serious abeg” just to track the user while some are already searching for information on the user’s family.
The offer has been interpreted by some as an attempt to uncover the identity of the person or persons behind the page, potentially for malicious purposes.
Many have expressed concerns that the offer could lead to harassment, intimidation, or even violence against the handler and his innocent family members while others have cautioned against sharing personal details, citing concerns for safety and privacy.
The incident has sparked a wider debate about the role of social media in amplifying divisive rhetoric and the potential consequences of such actions.
