The Lagos State House of Assembly has suspended Jelili Sulaimon, Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area, due to alleged misconduct.

This suspension is effective immediately, and his vice, Akinpelu Johnson, will take over his responsibilities in the meantime.

The lawmakers made this decision during a plenary session, citing Sulaimon’s non-compliance, defiance, and uncooperative attitude towards the legislative body.

The House Committee on Local Government Administration and Chieftaincy Affairs Chairman, Sanni Okanlawon, proposed the suspension, referencing the 1999 Constitution.

According to reports, Sulaimon’s misconduct includes masterminding chaos in the Iyana-Ipaja axis of Alimosho Local Government, which led to the death of one Mr. Micheal Ajayi in April 2024.

Additionally, the State Auditor-General’s report highlighted significant irregularities in Sulaimon’s financial records, showcasing his consistent non-compliance with financial regulations.

The Assembly instructed the council’s management to recognize Johnson’s authority and provide necessary support for a smooth transition. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to relevant authorities.
