Italian Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani Passes Away at 91

Giorgio Armani, world-renowned Italian fashion designer and founder of the Armani fashion empire, has died at the age of 91.

The Armani Group confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the designer passed away peacefully at his home in Milan, surrounded by loved ones. The company noted that Armani remained active in his work until his final days, overseeing collections and projects with his characteristic dedication.

Armani, whose name became synonymous with minimalist elegance, rose to global prominence in the late 1970s with his innovative approach to tailoring. His unstructured jackets and sleek “power suits” redefined menswear and womenswear, influencing fashion and business culture worldwide.

Over the decades, he expanded his brand into accessories, cosmetics, sportswear, hotels, and home décor, creating one of the most successful privately owned fashion empires, with revenues estimated in the billions of euros.

Tributes have poured in from around the world. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described him as “a symbol of the best of Italy,” while Hollywood stars including Julia Roberts and Leonardo DiCaprio remembered him as a visionary and friend. Fellow designer Donatella Versace said “the world lost a giant.”

A public memorial will be held this weekend at the Armani Theater in Milan, followed by a private funeral service, the company announced.

Armani’s passing marks the end of an era in global fashion, but his influence rooted in simplicity, elegance, and timeless design remains indelible.
