The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff members as part of its ongoing human resource management and capacity-building efforts. The decision was taken during the commission’s weekly meeting on Thursday and is part of a broader initiative to ensure a motivated and efficient workforce ahead of upcoming electoral activities.
Out of 515 staff shortlisted for promotion, 214 were elevated to GL07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05, and 17 to GL04. The move was sanctioned following recommendations from the Appointment, Promotion, and Disciplinary Committee, in accordance with the commission’s Staff Conditions of Service. INEC emphasized that the exercise was merit-based, designed to reward diligence, competence, and sustained performance across its workforce.
In addition to the junior staff promotions, INEC has commenced a structured assessment for senior staff. This evaluation aims to identify personnel suitable for leadership positions, ensuring that key managerial roles are filled with qualified and experienced individuals. The assessment process is expected to influence the future career trajectory of senior officers and strengthen organizational governance.
The commission also urged all staff to continue demonstrating dedication and professionalism, especially as preparations intensify for the upcoming elections in Anambra, the Federal Capital Territory, Ekiti, and Osun states. According to INEC officials, the promotion and assessment exercises are part of a long-term strategy to build institutional capacity, enhance accountability, and ensure the commission remains responsive and effective in delivering credible electoral processes.
