The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has unveiled the Complaint Response Unit and Technical Intelligence Unit in the Ogun State Police Command.
The gesture was to improve professionalism and make police officers accountable to the public.
The spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, who stated this in a statement on Tuesday, said the new response units would make policing public-friendly, and accessible, and allow the public to checkmate their services in various parts of the state through feedback.
About three police officers were dismissed early this year following their alleged involvement in an armed robbery in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.
The dismissed officers are Inspector Taiwo Kolawole with force number AP/No 341113, Inspector John Ogbe with force number AP/No 309292 and Cpl Idowu Sunday, with force number 513707.
All the officers were attached to Ijebu-Ife in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.
According to the statement, the new units would be available for people to ensure that operatives of the command act professionally while rendering their service and ensure that “every transgression and unprofessional behaviour will be investigated and erring officers will be disciplined accordingly.”
She said, ”The effort is geared towards accountability, responsiveness, and technology-driven policing—to adopt all means to improve prompt response, tracking of criminals in real-time, and service delivery to larger members of the public.
“Members of the public are hereby implored to adopt this easy method to communicate and channel their genuine concerns and complaints bothering on unprofessional conduct of serving police officers.
“Matters of fundamental human rights, rule of law, and equality of all citizens, with a core mandate of prioritising all persons who reside in Ogun State to have a common platform to air their dissent through appropriate corridors.
“Police officers tasked with these responsibilities have been trained to swiftly intercept calls. Every complainant has the option to make their reports in native Yoruba languages, in cognizance of the queue while narrating their complaints.”
Odutola added that the initiative would enforce police compliance with professional conduct in the state while urging the public to contact the police through the circulated phone contacts and on X handle.
