France named Clara Chappaz as the country’s very first Minister of Artificial Intelligence.

This is a historic appointment that really underlines the commitment of the country towards AI and its world-changing potentials across different sectors.

Chappaz is a renowned techie/innovator who joins the administration with a good deal of relevant experience: ex-senior advisor on digital issues to the French Prime Minister. Hopefully, her vast knowledge of implications and possible benefits of AI will contribute much to the shaping of France’s AI strategy.

She had been promoted as the world’s first-ever AI minister “to oversee the development and implementation of AI-related policies and initiatives.” Her agenda might probably include:
Ethical AI provides for the development and application of artificial intelligence in a responsible way, taking into consideration human rights and values.

Innovation in developing an active ecosystem in AI research and development, and deployment.

Financial Inclusion: To implement AI to stimulate economic growth by offering more job opportunities.
Social Impact: Applying AI to address societal problems in fields like health, education, and climate change.

The appointment of Chappaz epitomizes the ambition of France to lead in this new field. Under her guidance, the country should be driven to a future in which AI could support citizens toward a more sustainable and equal society.
