November 1, 2023 2 min read

The Forum of Executive Secretaries and Chief Executive Officers of State Primary Health Care Development Agencies and Boards in Nigeria lauded the former Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, for his exceptional leadership in advancing the agenda of primary healthcare in the country.

The Forum made this known on Tuesday night during a valedictory session in honour of Shuaib.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the forum, Dr Mohammed Adis said the NPHCDA had witnessed significant progress and transformation under the guidance of Shuaib.

“Your visionary approach to healthcare delivery has led to the implementation of groundbreaking initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of millions of Nigerians. From the revitalisation of primary health care centres to the introduction of innovative immunisation programmes, your dedication to improving the health outcomes of our citizens has been truly commendable.

“Your leadership style has been characterised by inclusivity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to collaboration. You have consistently fostered strong partnerships with various stakeholders, including the forum of EA/CEOs of SPHCDA, to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to primary health care delivery.

“Your willingness to listen, engage, and incorporate the perspectives of different actors has been instrumental in driving progress and achieving tangible results.”

In his message, Dr Shuaib said the progress made in implementing the Primary Healthcare Under One Roof Policy, coupled with the strides to improve routine immunisation activities, COVID-19 vaccine uptake, and other PHC services, stood as testaments to the collective commitment and dedication to the health and wellbeing of the communities.

“I am proud of the milestones we have achieved together and the resilient spirit we have displayed in the face of challenges. The bonds forged, the lessons learned, and the successes celebrated will forever remain etched in my heart.

“I encourage you to maintain this momentum, to continue prioritising and addressing the needs of our people, and to uphold the values, and ethos we have worked hard to instate,” Faisal noted.

Faisal is a Nigerian medical doctor and public health specialist.

He served as the ED and CEO of the NPHCDA, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health from 2017-2023.
