The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has announced plans to revisit the farm settlement era initiated by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the old Western Region, to enhance agriculture and food security in the state.

Oyebanji made this known during a visit to young farmers in three cluster areas in the state, including Eporo-Emure, Ikere, and Aramoko-Erio, on Tuesday.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to investing heavily in agriculture to empower youths, ensure food security, and drive industrialization.

The Governor disclosed that construction work on ultramodern dormitories at the farm settlements would commence within three weeks.

The dormitories will feature facilities such as sitting rooms, kitchens, security posts, and sick bays.

About 930 youths are participating in the “Bring Back Youth into Agriculture” scheme, a collaborative effort between the state government and YSJ Farms. The program provides land, seedlings, extension services, and market access to participants.

Oyebanji interacted with farmers, inquiring about their needs, and directed the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, to address them promptly.

The Governor assured the young farmers of his administration’s readiness to expedite action on their requests, including motorable roads, security, and provision of vehicles and motorcycles.

Oyebanji stressed that agriculture is a lucrative business, citing the wealth of farmers in developed economies. He expressed optimism that the state would reap bountiful harvests from its investment in agribusiness.

The Governor commended YSJ Farms’ CEO, Yemisi Joluwe, for partnering with his administration to elevate agriculture in Ekiti.
