Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Bashir Dalhatu, has suggested that an amnesty programme similar to the Niger Delta model could be explored as part of efforts to address the persistent insecurity in Northern Nigeria.

Dalhatu, speaking on the ongoing debate around the most effective strategy to curb violent extremism, banditry, and terrorism in the region, said that a blend of military action and non-kinetic measures may offer a more sustainable path to peace.

He noted that the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme had recorded success by combining disarmament with educational opportunities, skills development, and social reintegration for youths involved in militancy.

According to him, adopting a similar framework in the North could complement ongoing security operations and provide alternative pathways for individuals willing to renounce violence.

The ACF chairman emphasized that all viable options should be considered as stakeholders continue to seek long-term solutions to the complex security challenges confronting Northern Nigeria.
