Armed bandits have attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and abducting several worshippers.

The attack occurred early on Sunday, December 14, 2025, during a church service. The victim, identified only as Jayjay, was reportedly shot dead during the assault.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of worshippers abducted remains unconfirmed, as security operatives and local authorities continue to assess the situation.

The incident marks the second attack on a church in Okun land within weeks, raising growing concerns among residents and worshippers across the area.

On November 30, 2025, armed men stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, where they abducted a cleric identified as Orlando and several worshippers during a service. The attackers reportedly demanded an initial ₦500 million ransom, later reduced to ₦200 million, and issued a two-day ultimatum to the victims’ families.

Residents also recalled that Ayetoro Kiri community came under attack about three weeks ago, when armed assailants targeted a local school. On that occasion, the community vigilante group reportedly repelled the attackers, preventing casualties and abductions.

The latest attack has renewed fears over the worsening security situation in Okun land, with residents calling on security agencies and the Kogi State Government to take urgent action to protect lives and prevent further attacks.
