March 20, 2024 1 min read

The Minister for Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has canvassed support from the legislative arm of government to establish local value addition in the mineral sector.

Alake stated that such measures would create significant employment opportunities and bring benefits to communities rich in minerals.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations, Alaba R. Balogun and shared on Wednesday, March 20.

Part of the statement reads: “The Hon Minister for Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake has canvassed for legislative support that will entrench local value addition in the mineral sector, asserting that it will generate massive employment and beneficiation to mineral-endowed communities.

“Dr Alake disclosed this today during an oversight visit by the House Committee on Solid Minerals led by its Chairman, Honourable Jonathan Gbefwi to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.

“Bringing the visitors up-to-date on recent activities and programmes of the ministry, the Hon minister explained that value addition and mineral processing as a key point of the ministry’s 7-point agenda offered enormous benefits to a mineral-endowed country like Nigeria by providing jobs and maximizing natural resources.”
