The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and sociopolitical organization, Afenifere, has paid tribute to the late former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleosho, describing him as an outstanding Nigerian patriot who left an indelible mark on the nation.
In a statement signed by Secretary General Agbaakin Ademola Folarin and National Publicity Secretary Comrade Jare Ajayi, Afenifere remembered Koleosho as a courageous patriot, a skilled politician, and a successful businessman.
He was a chieftain of Afenifere and former chairman of the organization in Oyo State.
Afenifere Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, consoled the family of the late patriot, urging them to take heart and be comforted by the good legacy he left behind.
Chief Michael Adeniyi Koleosho, former Chairman of Alliance for Democracy, passed away on September 2, 2024, at his Ibadan residence, aged 86.
Born on April 30, 1938, in Saki, Oyo State, he hailed from the Emi-Abata family.
Koleosho’s educational journey took him from elementary school in Saki to Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, and later to the School of Hygiene, Eleyele, Ibadan, where he studied Environmental Sanitation.
After a stint in the civil service, he ventured into business, excelling in commodity distribution, transportation, real estate, and hospitality.
His political career began in 1976 as a Councilor in Ifedapo Local Government Area, Saki. In 1979, he was elected into the State House of Assembly, representing Ifedapo constituency under the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
He later became a Commissioner in the State Executive Council, appointed by Governor Bola Ige.
According to Afenifere, Koleosho left an indelible mark in business and politics, earning recognition as a philanthropist, public-spirited politician, devoted community leader, and compassionate patriot.
His achievements were honored with national accolades, including the Officer of The Federal Republic title and the traditional title of Babalaje.
As a dedicated member of Afenifere, Chief Michael Koleosho demonstrated remarkable courage in the face of adversity, particularly during the struggles against military rule in 1979 and 1999.
His unwavering commitment to democracy and justice earned him respect and admiration from his community.
In a testament to his influence and dedication, Koleosho successfully advocated for the establishment of a campus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in his hometown of Saki.
In a fitting tribute, Governor Seyi Makinde renamed the institution Michael Adeniyi Koleosho Polytechnic in May 2024, cementing his legacy in the annals of history.
