A 34-year-old man, Monday Chukwu, has allegedly stabbed his friend, 30-year-old Kefa Ofando, to death over a N2,000 debt.
Chukwu was among 12 suspects paraded by the Ondo State Police Command for various crimes, including murder, robbery, and arson.
According to Commissioner of Police Abayomi Oladipo, an argument ensued when Chukwu demanded the borrowed amount from Ofando, leading to the fatal stabbing with scissors.
This horrific incident highlights the devastating consequences of unchecked anger and greed.
In another disturbing case, 16-year-old Precious Kolawole was arrested for involvement in the murder of popular caterer Mrs. Adeniyi Iyabode in Akure. Kolawole’s accomplice, 17-year-old Philip Emmanuel, had already been apprehended and confessed to their roles in the crime.
“The first Suspect, Precious Kolawole, claimed to have heard Mrs. Adeniyi talking about receiving a substantial amount of money through her bank account and, on the heels of this, recruited Philip Emmanuel, the second suspect, to jointly murder the victim gruesomely,” the CP said.
“Clinical investigation revealed knife wounds inflicted by Philip Emmanuel and machete cuts by Precious Kolawole, resulting in the death of the victim. It was also gathered that the victim successfully withdrew the sum of thirty thousand Naira from her account via her ATM card.”
Four persons who are members of a syndicate who specialise in stealing brain box of vehicles in Ondo State were also paraded. The Suspects confessed to the crime, saying that they spend just five minutes to remove any vehicle brain box.
The CP emphasised that, “The Ondo State Police Command in its commitment to tackling crime and maintaining public order, have in the past weeks made significant strides in apprehending suspects involved in serious offences.”
These shocking events underscore the need for increased vigilance and community engagement to prevent such senseless violence.
The police commissioner’s efforts to bring perpetrators to justice are commendable, and it’s essential to address the root causes of these crimes to ensure public safety.
Other suspects paraded included those arrested for robbery, arson, and other violent crimes, demonstrating the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Ondo State.
